Abdul Matheen, the former Managing Director of MWSC under the current administration, has asserted that there is no way for incumbent President Mohamed Muizzu to secure victory in the 2028 presidential election.
Speaking on Adhadhu’s "Etherefuh" program, Matheen said that his assessment is based on the President’s current conduct and actions.
"Looking at the way President Muizzu handles affairs and his pattern of behaviour, God willing, there is absolutely no way he will secure [the presidency] in 2028," Matheen said.
Matheen further suggested that the President himself is likely aware that he cannot win the next presidential election.
During the interview, Matheen heavily criticised the administration's policies, claiming the government lacks a clear direction. He cited the Rasmalé project as an example of this inconsistency.
"Right now, things are drifting like a piece of coconut husk at sea. For instance, if you look at Rasmalé, it was first awarded to an individual named Raju on the basis that it would cost nothing. He eventually left after doing whatever he did," Matheen said.
"Then, they reclaimed the land using whatever funds they could find. Now, they are stuck—unsure whether to give it away or sell it—behaving like someone holding a handful of scorching hot pudding, not knowing what to do with it."
He argued that the Rasmalé project was flawed from its inception, adding that a project built on a wrong foundation will inevitably lead to a series of further mistakes.
In response to his criticisms regarding the Rasmalé project, several senior government officials have begun targeting Matheen with verbal attacks on social media.
