Former President Abdulla Yameen has urged President Mohamed Muizzu not to mistake the public's current silence for patience regarding the government's "reckless" actions.

In an interview with Channel 13 during his ongoing visit to Addu City, Yameen referenced the decision to grant 500 hectares of land from the Rasmalé project to the UAE’s Eagle Hills free of charge and in perpetuity. He emphasised that the Maldivian people are well-informed and fully aware of actions that undermine their best interests.

"President Muizzu must accept that citizens across the country are aware of this government’s reckless conduct and the decisions that conflict with the interests of the Maldivian people. These are informed citizens; do not assume they are simply being patient," Yameen stated.

Yameen further noted that it is a grave mistake to believe the public is unaware of the government's inner workings, asserting that the people possess information. He added that the public is eagerly awaiting the day this situation changes.

"The people are law-abiding, but they are constantly hoping for the day this situation is overturned. This sentiment was echoed by the people of Addu tonight. We are not the only ones speaking out about this," Yameen said.

"Therefore, no government or leader should operate under the delusion that the public remains ignorant of their actions unless the government chooses to explain or justify them. Believing that the people lack access to the truth is a mistake."

During his visit to Addu City, Yameen toured various islands to meet with residents. He also held a formal meeting with the Addu City Council.

Yameen, who has already announced his intention to contest the 2028 presidential election, continues to lead active political engagements through his party, the People’s National Front (PNF), which holds weekly events.
