Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim announced today that Malaysia's central bank, Bank Negara, has decided to facilitate a $100 million facility for the Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA).

Prime Minister Anwar shared this information while addressing the media following official bilateral talks held during his visit to the Maldives at the invitation of President Mohamed Muizzu.

According to the Prime Minister, the request for the $100 million facility was initiated by the Maldives Monetary Authority. He further noted that Muizzu had formally requested a response to the MMA's proposal through a letter.

While the final details of the $100 million arrangement are still being finalized, Prime Minister Anwar confirmed that both nations have agreed to provide the funds. He stated that the process is now moving forward pending an agreement between the two central banks, emphasizing that the facility is being established on a foundation of mutual trust and friendship.

The Prime Minister also revealed that both countries have decided to further strengthen cooperation across various other sectors.

During the Malaysian Prime Minister's visit, agreements were signed to provide mutual support and assistance in the fields of defense and religious affairs.
