President Mohamed Muizzu has appointed Mohamed Tholal, the former Commissioner of Sports, and Ahmed Habeeb, the former head of Kaadedhdhoo Airport, to senior positions at the President's Office at the ministerial level.
Tholal was appointed as the Principal Secretary to the President for Tertiary Health Services. With this appointment, the position of Commissioner of Sports has become vacant.
Tholal was a prominent figure in the campaign to elect Muizzu, notably serving as the spokesperson for the PPM/PNC coalition during the presidential election.
Habeeb was appointed as the Principal Secretary to the President on Policy and Manifesto. This position was previously held by Abdulla Nazim, who also served as the Health Minister in the current administration. Some local news outlets have reported that Nazim resigned from the post on Monday.
Habeeb, who joins the President's Office at the ministerial level, previously served as General Manager at Villa Air. During former President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom's administration, he also served as a Minister of State at the Ministry of Housing, where Muizzu was the Minister at the time.
