Adhadhu has learned that the Gaaf Dhaal Gadhdhoo Council is issuing fraudulent driver's licenses.

Reliable sources confirmed that the council has been issuing licenses in exchange for payments, bypassing both the mandatory theory and practical examinations.

Speaking on the condition of anonymity, a source said that Maldivian nationals are charged between MVR 5,000 and MVR 7,000 for these licenses, while expatriates are charged MVR 9,000.

Informants allege that this is a long-standing operation carried out with the collusion and knowledge of several council employees. It is reported that hundreds of people have obtained licenses through this illicit scheme.

The Gadhdhoo Council President did not respond to phone calls seeking comment on the matter.

Similar cases of illegal license issuance have occurred in the past, resulting in the dismissal of several employees from the Gaaf Alif Villingili Council.
