President Mohamed Muizzu has announced the government's decision to construct a research facility featuring state-of-the-art laboratory equipment to cater to various engineering disciplines.
Muizzu said the facility will provide opportunities for experimentation and research across a wide spectrum of fields, including civil, mechanical, electrical, electronics, and software engineering. It will also support areas such as aircraft and aeronautical engineering, robotics, artificial intelligence, and digital engineering.
"God willing, we intend to construct a building equipped with state-of-the-art, high-end laboratory facilities where research and analysis can be conducted across various engineering sectors in the coming days," he declared.
Muizzu further noted that the facility would be accessible to students pursuing engineering careers, as well as international researchers wishing to conduct studies in the Maldives.
Highlighting that the government will undertake the necessary technical work and seek the required investments for the project, Muizzu emphasized that the initiative would be carried out in a sustainable manner without burdening the state budget.
Muizzu shared these plans during a visit to the China-Maldives Everlasting Friendship Park yesterday to mark National Engineers' Day.
Last year, President Muizzu officially designated August 30 as "Maldives Engineers' Day" to be celebrated annually at a national level. The date was chosen to commemorate the inauguration of the Sinamale' Bridge, which took place on August 30, 2018.
