Maldives Customs Service has seized 3.8 kilograms of narcotics attempted to be smuggled into the country via air freight.
According to Customs, the narcotics were seized on Friday. Officials confirmed that the confiscated substances tested positive for cannabis.
The drugs were discovered during a search of an air cargo shipment. Customs stated that the shipment was flagged and inspected based on intelligence-led suspicions that it contained illicit drugs.
This latest seizure of 3.8 kilograms of cannabis follows a similar incident last week, where authorities intercepted 3.2 kilograms of cannabis that was attempted to be smuggled into the Maldives through the postal service.
However, police have not yet confirmed whether any arrests have been made in connection with either of these two cases.
