Former President Abdulla Yameen has said that while he harbours no personal ill will toward senior officials in President Mohamed Muizzu’s administration, he will not grant positions in any future government of his to the high-ranking figures currently surrounding the President who are involved in corruption.
Speaking on a program aired by Sangu TV, Yameen remarked that he sees no path for Muizzu to secure victory in the 2028 elections. He added that whether Muizzu chooses to support him in that presidential race remains the President's own decision.
Yameen emphasized that even in such a scenario, there would be no place in his administration for the senior officials currently engaged in theft alongside Muizzu.
"We are criticizing Muizzu’s policies. I have an intense hatred for the high-ranking individuals around Muizzu who are involved in corruption. There will be no place for them near me. There is absolutely no doubt about that," Yameen said.
Yameen noted that while he considers it acceptable to reappoint certain individuals who previously served or are currently serving in PPM/PNC government positions, any future cabinet he forms will feature a representation of youth.
Expressing that he holds no animosity toward Muizzu, Yameen clarified that his resentment is reserved solely for former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih for his unjust imprisonment.
"I have no ill will toward others. I certainly have no animosity toward Muizzu; he is someone who emerged from within our ranks. I do not believe Muizzu could be a cruel person. Therefore, I do not believe he would have me sent to prison," Yameen said.
