A letter has been sent to Home Minister Ali Ihusaan, raising serious concerns regarding the conditions at the Drug Treatment and Rehabilitation Center in Kaafu Himmafushi.
The letter, submitted by Galolhu North MP Mohamed Ibrahim, seeks a written response to address grievances voiced by patients, their families, and relevant stakeholders concerning the facility's current state.
The inquiry seeks clarification on the structural condition of the building, the quality of food and essential services, and the progress of ongoing maintenance. It also questions the types and standards of treatment provided, as well as the staffing arrangements and the professional competency of those administering care.
The letter emphasizes that under the Drug Act and international human rights standards, every individual seeking treatment is entitled to safe, evidence-based care that upholds human dignity.
It further warns that failure to meet these standards undermines the effectiveness of rehabilitation, increasing the likelihood of patients relapsing into drug addiction.
Given that these issues are of public interest, the MP has requested the minister to provide a response as a matter of urgency.
