The Criminal Court has ordered a woman to be remanded in custody for 15 days following an incident involving the use of obscene language.
According to the police, 33-year-old Aishath Niuma, a native of Raa Innamadhoo, was arrested for communicating in a vulgar manner that violates public social standards.
When Niuma was produced before the court for her remand hearing, the presiding judge ruled that her arrest followed due process. However, Niuma denied all allegations made against her.
The court justified the necessity of her detention on the grounds that her release could pose a potential threat to public safety.
The court noted that some evidence had been presented regarding the case, including an incident report compiled by the officers who attended the scene.
