Five individuals have been charged in connection with a burglary at an apartment in Maafannu Nalahiya Residence in March, where millions in cash were stolen from two safes.
The Prosecutor General’s Office (PG) stated that MVR 3,992,000 was stolen after the two safes were broken into.
Five individuals face charges of exerting unlawful influence over another's property. Additionally, three of the suspects have been charged with criminal trespass and destruction of property.
The individuals charged in the case are:
- Ahmed Faris: Charged with exerting unlawful influence over another's property, criminal trespass, and destruction of property.
- Jazeel Mohamed: Charged with exerting unlawful influence over another's property, criminal trespass, and destruction of property.
- Mohamed Noor Ahmed: Charged with exerting unlawful influence over another's property, criminal trespass, and destruction of property.
- Mohamed Afrah: Charged with exerting unlawful influence over another's property.
- Ismail Asif: Charged with exerting unlawful influence over another's property.
Ahmed Faris, Jazeel Mohamed, and Mohamed Noor Ahmed face a maximum sentence of four years in prison if convicted. Meanwhile, Mohamed Afrah and Ismail Asif face a maximum sentence of three years, two months, and 12 days.
The PG Office further noted that they have requested the Criminal Court to order the defendants to provide restitution to the victims for the stolen funds.
