Out of 243 projects assigned to Fenaka Corporation—including office buildings, police posts, and schools across various islands—work is currently progressing on only seven, Dhiggaru MP Ahmed Nazim revealed today.
Nazim disclosed these figures during a meeting of the State-Owned Enterprises (SOE) Committee, where he sharply criticized the management of Fenaka for the failure to advance projects entrusted to the company.
Nazim stated that the current administration had assigned projects to state-owned enterprises, including Fenaka, with the intention of executing them in the most cost-effective manner. However, he noted that the companies have failed to carry out the work as planned by the government, adding that they now seem hesitant to admit their inability to deliver.
"I believe that both the previous and current management at Fenaka are perhaps afraid to say they cannot do it, even when they know it is impossible. Despite it being evident that the work is not being done, they continue to take on projects they cannot handle. Once they take them on, the projects remain unstarted and unfinished," Nazim said.
Nazim mentioned that he obtained information regarding Fenaka’s projects because he is someone who "listens to the talk on the ground." However, he proposed that the committee formally verify the exact figures directly from Fenaka. This includes details on projects managed independently by the company, those assigned by the government, and the status of projects in three atolls that Fenaka had subcontracted to STELCO.
The SOE Committee supported Nazim’s proposal and passed a motion to summon Fenaka’s current management to clarify the total number of ongoing projects and provide the latest progress updates.
In addition to Nazim, other members of the ruling People’s National Congress (PNC) on the committee expressed dissatisfaction with Fenaka’s performance. The consensus among members was that no management team at Fenaka under the current administration has been able to operate effectively.
