Jul 23, 2026, 3:17 PM

Police have arrested three people over an attempt to bring more than a kilogram of narcotics into the Maldives by air.

They are Andrew Lloyd Corbin, 53, a Jamaican national, Ibrahim Athoof, 20, of N. Lhohi, and a second Maldivian man.

The Maldives Police Service said Corbin was stopped at Velana International Airport on Sunday after Maldives Customs Service passed on intelligence that he was carrying narcotics inside his body.

The Drug Enforcement Department and Counter Narcotics Intelligence arrested Athoof and the second Maldivian man in a joint operation on Monday.

At the remand hearing the court ordered Corbin and Athoof held for 15 days. The third suspect was released under court-imposed monitoring conditions.
