President Mohamed Muizzu concludes official visit to Sri Lanka

The President's Office has revealed that it does not maintain records regarding the unofficial trips taken by President Mohamed Muizzu and his wife Sajidha Mohamed.

During a hearing at the Information Commissioner’s Office—convened after the President's Office failed to respond to an RTI request filed by Adhadhu seeking details of these unofficial trips—Information Officer Aishath Ageedha clarified that the office only tracks the President's official engagements. She noted that details concerning unofficial travel are not documented by the administration.

"Information regarding the President's unofficial travels, the locations where he spends his holidays, and the expenses incurred for such trips are not among the records maintained by this office," the Information Officer stated.

In response to the request submitted by Adhadhu, the President's Office has so far only disclosed the names of seven countries the President visited unofficially. However, the office has declined to reveal the total expenditure for these trips.

Furthermore, the President's Office has yet to disclose any details regarding the official or unofficial trips taken by Sajidha. Addressing this, the office claimed that her official travels to date were made upon invitation and therefore did not incur any state costs.

Despite these assertions, Information Commissioner Ahmed Ahid has ordered the President's Office to disclose the details of the President’s unofficial trips, as well as all official and unofficial travel details of the First Lady, within 14 days starting today.
