Aruni Goonetilleke, the Chairperson of the Development Bank of Maldives Limited (DBM), has resigned from her position.

Adhadhu understands that she stepped down last Wednesday. The Privatization and Corporatization Board (PCB) has confirmed her resignation; however, the reason for her departure has not yet been disclosed.

The bank was officially inaugurated on November 16, 2024, as part of President Mohamed Muizzu’s presidential pledge to fund large-scale projects aimed at diversifying the Maldivian economy. However, nearly two years since the decree to establish the bank, it has yet to commence lending operations.

The outgoing chairperson, Aruni Goonetilleke, holds a Master of Laws from Harvard University and possesses extensive experience in international financial markets. She has previously held senior leadership roles in Sri Lankan banks and international financial institutions, specializing in business origination, governance, and credit risk management.
