High Court to hold secret appeal hearing of Aisha gag order

The High Court has decided to conduct the appeal hearing behind closed doors regarding the gag order issued on Adhadhu's "Aisha" documentary with sexual misconduct allegations against President Mohamed Muizzu.

The High Court proceedings are scheduled to commence at 9:00 am today. However, the court has ruled that the case will be heard behind closed doors. The appeal was filed by Adhadhu’s CEO, Hussain Fiyaz Moosa.

The Maldives Bar Council has intervened in the case. Following the issuance of the gag order, the Bar Council released a statement expressing grave concern over the ruling.

Since the injunction was issued, Adhadhu journalist Mohamed Shahzan was sentenced to 15 days in prison for questioning the President regarding the allegations. Additionally, Leevan Ali Nasir, the journalist who reported on the court order, was sentenced to 10 days in prison.

Furthermore, at Muizzu's orders, Prosecutor General (PG) Abbas Shareef filed criminal charges against Fiyaz and Adhadhu Editor Hassan Mohamed in connection with the documentary.

Prior to these legal actions, police conducted a raid on Adhadhu’s office. During the operation, authorities seized 20 electronic devices, including laptops and hard drives.
