French low-cost carrier French Bee has announced plans to launch flight operations to the Maldives later this year as part of its expanded winter schedule.

According to media reports citing the airline, the carrier will also commence flights to neighboring Sri Lanka alongside its Maldives service. These operations are scheduled to begin on December 18.

The new service is a seasonal offering, currently scheduled to run from December through May of next year.

French Bee CEO Marc-Antoine said that the expansion into Sri Lanka and the Maldives is part of the airline's strategy to strengthen its position in the long-haul leisure market.

According to statistics released by the Tourism Ministry, France currently ranks as the seventh-largest source market for tourists to the Maldives. So far this year, more than 29,000 French tourists have visited the country.
