The Male' City Council has cleared 46 tons of waste illegally dumped in the T-Jetty area of the capital.
The council last cleaned the area just before the start of the Ramadan. The massive volume of waste cleaned up over the past three days accumulated in the span of just five months.
According to the council, the cleanup operation at the T-Jetty took three days to complete. The discarded items consisted of old furniture, general refuse, and various types of plastic waste.
"I urge the public to report those who engage in such activities. I also appeal to those responsible to refrain from dumping waste in this manner," Male' City Mayor Adam Azim said while inspecting the site.
In addition to the T-Jetty, the council has also conducted a cleanup of the Carnival area, where a significant amount of waste was also removed.
The council has requested the public to assist in monitoring illegal dumping by sending photos or videos of offenders to their dedicated hotline at 9341144. To report issues via phone, citizens are encouraged to call 1622.
