Former President Mohamed Nasheed, the newly elected Chairperson of the main opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), met with the party’s parliamentary group today.
All 13 MPs representing the MDP in Parliament attended the meeting, which was held this afternoon at the People’s Majlis secretariat.
The MDP’s Deputy Parliamentary Group Leader, Hussain Ziyad (Fittey), said that the discussions focused on coordinating legislative efforts between the parliamentary group and the party’s leadership.
"The discussions were on how we can work in alignment with the party leadership within Parliament, ensuring everyone is on the same page and identifying the next steps forward," Ziyad said.
Nasheed, who secured the chairpersonship last Friday after a contest against Galolhu South MP Meekail Ahmed Naseem, also held meetings with the party’s senior leadership yesterday.
During those sessions, he met with MDP President Abdulla Shahid, Male’ City Mayor Adam Azim, heads of various party wings, and the party’s legal team.
