Galolhu South MP Meekail Ahmed Naseem has conceded defeat in the MDP Chairperson election and phoned former President Mohamed Nasheed to offer his congratulations.
In a post on X, Meekail stated that he called Nasheed to congratulate him on his decisive victory, adding that he remains committed to working with renewed resolve to ensure the party wins the 2028 presidential election.
"I called President Nasheed a short while ago to congratulate him on his complete success. I will work with a fresh determination to keep the MDP united and secure a win for the party in 2028. I will remain steadfast alongside the general members of the party," he said.
With results from 130 ballot boxes processed so far, Nasheed has secured 8,661 votes, while Mickail has received 4,158 votes. Nasheed currently maintains a lead of 4,503 votes. A total of 241 ballot boxes were placed for this election.
While 50,176 individuals were eligible to vote in today's election, the exact voter turnout has not yet been confirmed.
The position of MDP Chairperson is considered the most influential administrative post within the party. Nasheed has previously served in this capacity.
