Galolhu South MP Meekail Ahmed Naseem has said that discriminating between supporters and rivals from the chairperson election is not a Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) policy, asserting that he will treat all members equally.
Speaking ahead of this Friday’s MDP chairperson election, Meekail expressed concern tonight that rhetoric from his opponents has raised fears of a repeat of the internal divisions seen in 2023.
"I am saddened that some are speaking in a manner that could bring back the atmosphere of 2023. The policy suggesting that anyone who does not stand with me must be relegated to the backlines is not the MDP policy I believe in," he said.
"God willing, under my chairmanship, I will guarantee a place in the frontlines for everyone, regardless of whether you supported me or not."
Meekail’s remarks were in response to a message sent to the MDP National Council group by his opponent, former President Mohamed Nasheed. In that message, Nasheed suggested that those who do not stand with him would have to remain on the sidelines during his chairmanship.
Speaking at tonight’s rally, Meekail further pledged that under his leadership, he would pave the way for youth to contest the party’s highest positions. He emphasized that this inclusivity is the core MDP policy he advocates for.
