The Islamic Ministry has begun drafting a plan to celebrate Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha across Male' and the atolls, starting from next year.
Islamic Minister Mohamed Shaheem told the press that a special committee has commenced work on the festive framework.
He noted that the plan will be formulated in consultation with local councils, ensuring the participation of Islamic non-governmental organizations active in the atolls to coordinate the celebrations.
Shaheem highlighted that the ministry will collaborate with the Ministry of Dhivehi Language, Culture and Heritage to organize events in cities.
Emphasizing that the initiative is a framework rather than a set of restrictive regulations, Shaheem clarified that the objective is to foster cooperation between councils and NGOs in celebrating Eid.
The ministry’s decision comes at a time when some activities during the recent Eid al-Adha celebrations sparked debate and criticism.
