Three former presidents have announced plans to formulate a roadmap for future cooperation.
Speaking at a press conference held by the opposition coalition, former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih said that the government's most urgent priority must be the immediate release of detained journalists. He further called on the administration to instantly revoke "gag orders" and directives that obstruct press freedom.
Solih added that a special team comprising representatives from each of the three former presidents would be established to coordinate their efforts in the coming days. These teams would identify and formally submit necessary concerns to state institutions and the government. Furthermore, President Solih assured that they would not hesitate to take to the streets in protest if the government continues to infringe upon the rights of citizens or fails to implement essential reforms.

Former Presidents Yameen, Nasheed, and Solih held a historic meeting to unite against President Muizzu’s alleged unlawful actions and constitutional violations.
Former President Mohamed Nasheed, who also attended the briefing, echoed concerns regarding press freedom. Nasheed asserted that detaining journalists is unacceptable in a democracy and insisted that the government must release those currently in custody. He emphasized the need to nullify all orders restricting freedom of expression and to foster an environment where journalists can work without fear of intimidation.
The opposition has characterized this joint initiative by the three former presidents as an effort to ensure national stability and safeguard the fundamental rights of citizens. They stated that additional proposals to be submitted to the government are being organized for the coming weeks, affirming their commitment to ensuring the public's voice is heard by the administration.
During the meeting, the former presidents also expressed concern over the country's economic and social situation. They pledged to work together politically to address the challenges faced by the public due to current government policies. This marks the first time in the Maldives' political history that three former presidents have united in such a collaborative effort.
