Police have launched an investigation into Lawyer Adam Asif for charges of Qazf (an Islamic criminal charge of false accusation related to adultery or fornication) against President Mohamed Muizzu.
The government began targeting several journalists, lawyers, and members of the public with investigations following the publication of Adhadhu's "Aisha" documentary. It features an interview from a former President's Office employee who made allegations of sexual misconduct against Muizzu.
Asif has been summoned to appear at the police station tomorrow morning at 10:00 am. Police state that the alleged crime occurred on April 20.
Meanwhile, Adhadhu CEO Hussain Fiyaz and Editor Hassan Mohamed are facing a Qazf trial behind closed doors. The pre-trial hearing was held today at the Criminal Court.
Earlier this week, the Criminal Court issued an order prohibiting all citizens from discussing the documentary or its contents, whether directly or indirectly.
Following this, Adhadhu's Mohamed Shahzan was sentenced to 15 days in prison for questioning Muizzu. Leevan Ali Nasir was sentenced to 10 days in prison for a news article about the order.
