Amidst serious allegations against President Mohamed Muizzu, Velidhoo MP Mohamed Abbas has said that the best course of action is to remove the President from office and hand over the administration to Vice President Hussain Mohamed Latheef.
In a series of posts on social media X today, Abbas heavily criticized Muizzu and called for him to be brought before a court of law. He asserted that this move would be in the best interest of the ruling People’s National Congress (PNC).
"The best option for the majority party right now is to take a vote of no confidence against him and bring him before the court! Hand over the remainder of the term to the Vice President. If this is not done, the majority party will not succeed in 2028. Once he is removed through a no-confidence motion and his illegal, foul actions are investigated and prosecuted, the public will see that the majority party upholds the rule of law," Abbas wrote.
Furthermore, Abbas noted that the PNC’s defeat in the council elections and referendum held on April 4 was due to the public’s "lack of trust" in Muizzu.
"The majority party lost the referendum because of his excessive lying. Now, the entire party is struggling to move past his inappropriate involvement with a woman inside the President's Office. Removing him is the best outcome for both the nation and the majority party. This is currently the view and belief held by many members of the majority party," Abbas added.
In another post, Abbas claimed that while he was speaking with the woman who made the allegations against Muizzu in the documentary "Aisha" produced by Adhadhu, Muizzu had called her and later sent a message saying, "Hi baby."
The woman featured in the documentary is a former employee of the President's Office. She has made several serious allegations against Muizzu, including sexual harassment and corruption. Last Sunday, a court issued an injunction prohibiting the public from discussing these allegations.
