Criminal charges have been officially filed against Adhadhu CEO Hussain Fiyaz Moosa and Editor Hassan Mohamed over the documentary "Aisha," which features a former President's Office employee accusing President Mohamed Muizzu of sexual misconduct.
Fiyaz and Hassan are being charged with Qazf (a criminal charge under Islamic law over false accusation of adultery or fornication). The prosecution stated that the charges were brought because, as editors of Adhadhu, they published a documentary containing allegations directed at Muizzu.
The Criminal Court also issued a gag order regarding the case today. The order mandates that the documentary must not be circulated until the legal proceedings are concluded.
The charges against Fiyaz and Hassan came 14 days after the investigation into the documentary began. The probe was initiated following a directive from Muizzu during a live press conference, after he was questioned by Adhadhu regarding the allegations.
Following the directive, police raided the Adhadhu office and seized 20 electronic devices, including laptops and hard drives.
Meanwhile, seven international organizations have called for an immediate end to the criminal investigation against Adhadhu.
