Former Attorney General Azima Shakoor, who serves as the family lawyer for President Mohamed Muizzu, visited the Supreme Court yesterday.
Speaking to Adhadhu after exiting the court, Azima said she was there for a case involving one of her clients and that a prior appointment had been made.
"I went to the Supreme Court for an appointment regarding a case involving two minors whose registration has been delayed," Azima said.
Azima previously represented the President’s wife, Sajidha Mohamed, in a defamation lawsuit filed against several opposition political figures. Since then, she has been observed attending various meetings with the First Lady at the official presidential residence, Mulee'aage.
Following her involvement as the President’s family lawyer, the Prosecutor General’s (PG) Office withdrew several criminal charges against Azima in November 2025.
The charges against Azima included facilitating money laundering and providing false information to a state institution. These charges were originally filed in the Criminal Court on February 17, 2019.
The PG Office stated that the decision to withdraw the charges was made after reviewing submissions filed by her legal team requesting a review of the case.
"The office has decided not to proceed further with the charges against Aishath Azima Shakoor, as it is no longer deemed to be in the public interest to pursue the prosecution," the PG Office said.
