The Maldives and Sri Lanka signed seven MoUs yesterday, covering key sectors including tourism, education, and military cooperation.
The agreements were signed during a special ceremony held as part of President Mohamed Muizzu’s ongoing official visit to Sri Lanka.
Among the pacts signed are two military MoUs. These include an agreement on personnel training, education, and research within the defense sector, as well as an MoU to strengthen bilateral cooperation in counter-terrorism efforts.
The two nations also signed MoUs aimed at enhancing cooperation in the tourism sector and human resource development within the field of education.
Furthermore, an agreement was signed to collaborate on the archiving of historical documents from both countries. The ceremony also saw the renewal of an MoU focused on youth training and development through sports.
Muizzu also delivered a keynote address during his visit to the neighboring nation.
Speaking at the Presidential Secretariat in Colombo yesterday morning, Muizzu reaffirmed the Maldives' commitment to expanding bilateral ties and ensuring regional peace and stability.
Describing his meetings with Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake as highly successful, Muizzu expressed his hope that the implementation of the newly signed agreements would commence as soon as possible.
Muizzu also held discussions with the Speaker of the Parliament of Sri Lanka and the Sri Lankan Prime Minister.
The President is accompanied on this official visit by First Lady Sajidha Mohamed and a high-level delegation including several cabinet ministers.
