Sources have informed Adhadhu about a secret meeting between President Mohamed Muizzu and Prosecutor General (PG) Abbas Shareef at the President’s official residence, Muliaa'ge.
The meeting took place after the PG instructed police to launch a criminal investigation into Adhadhu over the "Aisha" documentary released a month ago.
Multiple sources have confirmed that the meeting occurred, but the specific details of the discussion remain unverified.
Despite repeated attempts to reach PG Abbas Shareef via phone calls and messages for comment, he has not denied meeting with Muizzu.
Abbas was among the first political appointees named by Muizzu after his inauguration. He was appointed as the Secretary of Legal Affairs at the President's Office on November 17, 2023, before assuming the role of Prosecutor General on September 18, 2024.
The meeting between Abbas and Muizzu follows yesterday’s police interrogation of Adhadhu CEO Hussain Fiyaz Moosa and Editor Hassan Mohamed, who are being accused of five criminal offenses.
The allegations:
- Vicarious liability and complicity (Section 30 of the Penal Code)
- Vicarious liability and complicity (Section 30(a)(2) of the Penal Code)
- Defamation (Qazf) (Section 612 of the Penal Code)
- Solicitation to commit an offense (Section 81 of the Penal Code)
- Conspiracy to commit an offense (Section 82 of the Penal Code)
The two journalists and a former employee of the President's Office have also been hit with a travel ban.
During a press conference last Monday, Muizzu denied the allegations levelled against him in the documentary.
However, the police raid on the Adhadhu office occurred less than 12 hours after he publicly called on relevant authorities to prosecute anyone disseminating the claims made in the documentary.
During the raid, which lasted approximately four hours, police seized electronic equipment from the newsroom.
Speaking to the press today, President’s Office Spokesperson Mohamed Hussain Shareef (Mundhu) claimed that the PG had requested the investigation before the President made his public call for the prosecution.
