Former President Abdulla Yameen has called on President Mohamed Muizzu to reform his administration’s conduct rather than targeting the media, following a police raid on the Adhadhu office and a move by the broadcasting regulator to restrict Channel 13.
Last night, police executed a court order to raid the offices of Adhadhu online, seizing electronic equipment. Authorities stated the operation was conducted to gather evidence related to a documentary titled 'Aisha' published a month ago.
The Maldives Media and Broadcasting Commission (Control Commission) also ordered Channel 13, last night, to cease its live coverage of ongoing street protests organized by Yameen’s People’s National Front (PNF).
"Do not blame the media; reform your actions," Yameen said in a brief message shared with the PNF media group.
This follows previous regulatory actions against Channel 13, including a two-hour broadcast suspension on September 17, 2025, following an investigation by the Broadcasting Commission. Additionally, in August 2025, the station was ordered to halt broadcasting just as it prepared to air a rally featuring the former president.
The documentary at the center of the police raid, released on Adhadhu’s social media platforms on March 28, features a former President’s Office employee making serious allegations regarding a personal relationship with President Muizzu.
Legal representatives have argued that the police raid on the Adhadhu office was intended to intimidate and silence the outlet rather than to legitimately gather evidence for a criminal investigation.
