Former Chairperson of opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) Fayyaz Ismail has strongly criticized the government, describing the recent actions of the Maldives Police Service as intimidation and political harassment. Fayyaz’s remarks follow a police raid on the offices of the online news outlet Adhadhu, conducted in connection with the documentary "Aisha".

In a post on X, Fayyaz claimed that President Mohamed Muizzu is increasingly frustrated as his popularity continues to decline. He further alleged that the President is weaponizing the police force to silence dissenting voices against the administration.

Fayyaz called for an immediate end to such government actions that obstruct press freedom. He stated that infringing upon the freedom of the press is unacceptable and has no place in a democratic system.

The police entered the Adhadhu office claiming to seek evidence for an investigation related to information contained in the documentary. However, the opposition maintains that this is a state-influenced move intended to intimidate journalists.

The incident has sparked widespread concern among journalists and the public. Many have taken to social media to express their alarm, accusing the government of attempting to curtail freedom of expression and media independence.
