A Spanish tourist has undergone a leg amputation following a shark attack while swimming near Gaaf Alif Kooddoo.
Police confirmed that the incident was reported on the afternoon of Saturday, April 11. The victim has been identified as a male tourist from Spain.
The shark attack resulted in severe injuries to both of his legs. He initially received emergency treatment in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the Gaafu Alif Atoll Hospital.
However, due to the severity of his condition, he was later medically evacuated to Male' for further care.
Police stated that doctors were forced to amputate one of his legs due to the extent of the deep lacerations sustained in the attack.
Authorities are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Police further noted that they are working closely with relevant agencies to complete necessary procedural requirements and ensure the victim receives all required assistance.
