The Special Operations (SO) Command of the Maldives Police Service has been placed on high alert.
Sources told Adhadhu that following the alert, police beats operating on the streets have been instructed to move toward the President's Office.
The mobilization of the SO Command comes amid the sudden resignation of cabinet ministers. Adhadhu understands that the ministers resigned following a directive from the President's Office.
The ministers who resigned are:
- Foreign Minister Abdulla Khaleel
- Social and Family Development Minister Aishath Shiham
- Defense Minister Ghassan Maumoon
- Local Government Minister Adam Shareef
- Health Minister Abdulla Nazim
- Agriculture Minister Mariyam Mariya
- Tourism Minister Thoriq Ibrahim
- Youth Minister Ibrahim Waheed (Asward)
- Higher Education Minister Ali Haidar
The dismissal of these government ministers follows a significant defeat for the ruling People's National Congress (PNC) in the recent local council elections.
Additionally, the public overwhelmingly rejected the government's proposal to synchronize elections in a referendum held alongside the council polls.
