Police have launched a search for a missing Maldivian man after the Udhares boat traveling from Male' to Gaaf Alif Villingili, ran aground on a reef near Laamu Olhuveli.
According to the police, the incident was reported at approximately 1:25 am. There were 13 people on board at the time of the accident. One expatriate managed to swim to Olhuveli, while 11 others were rescued by a boat from the resort.
The rescued group consists of two Maldivians and nine expatriates. Police confirmed that all 11 individuals are in good health.
However, authorities are currently conducting a search and rescue operation for one Maldivian passenger who remains missing following the incident.
As the vessel continues to sink, a large amount of cargo is drifting west of Olhuveli. Police have urged all vessels navigating the area to exercise extreme caution.
