President Mohamed Muizzu has said that all affairs of the Maldivian state will be shaped according to Islam, and that he is indifferent to pressure from secularists.
In his third presidential address delivered during the opening session of the People's Majlis this morning (February 5), Muizzu praised his government's efforts to revive Islamic guidance.
“It is the policy of this government to shape and develop things in accordance with the rules and principles clearly stated in the holy religion of Islam,” Muizzu said.
The Maldives is a 100 percent Islamic country, and the religion describes how Muslims should live, he said.
"As the President of this proud Maldivian Republic, I will implement this policy with the help and grace of God. I do not care even if secularists differ in these views," he claimed.
Muizzu said it was his duty as the head of state.
