Prisoner dies while being treated at IGMH

A man serving a sentence in Hulhumale' jail died this morning while being treated at Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH).

The Correctional Service said 53-year-old Ibrahim Suheil died at 9:05 am while undergoing treatment at IGMH.

Suheil had suffered a stroke in 2025 and was receiving treatment. The Correctional Service said he died of pneumonia.

His death has been reported to the police, his family, the Inspector of Correctional Service, the Human Rights Commission of the Maldives (HRCM) and the National Integrity Commission (NIC).
