It is a major threat to the Male' city council as former Chief of Defence Force Moosa Ali Jaleel is running for mayor as a candidate on behalf of President Mohamed Muizzu, Vaavu atoll council President Shujau Ali has said.
In a post on social media X yesterday (January 25), Shujau said the best option is to vote against Jaleel if he is Muizzu's choice.
Shujau highlighted the many matters that conflict with Muizzu's interests currently pending in the city council, with a majority of the ruling People's National Congress (PNC).
He warned that the real purpose of trying to make Jaleel mayor is to cover up such matters.
“Jaleel's main task will be to protect those issues (with Muizzu's interest),” he said.
Before becoming President in late 2023, Muizzu was the mayor of Male' and is accused of multiple corruption and mismanagement cases.
Neither the President's Office nor Jaleel has yet responded to Shujau's remarks.
