Mujthaba Elected Vice President of Commonwealth Handball Association

Cairo, Egypt: Ahmed Mujthaba (Mujey), President of Handball Maldives, has been elected as the Vice President of the Commonwealth Handball Association (CHA), Asia Region, marking a significant milestone for both Maldivian handball and regional sports administration.

Mujthaba’s appointment was confirmed during the Commonwealth Handball Association Congress, recently held in Cairo, Egypt.

The election is widely regarded as a well-deserved recognition of his leadership, dedication, and long-standing commitment to the development of handball at both national and international levels.

Elected as President of Handball Maldives two years ago, Mujthaba has played a pivotal role in driving the sport’s growth and development across the country. His involvement with Handball Maldives spans nearly a decade. When handball was officially recognised as a National Sports Association in 2015, Mujthaba served as the organisation’s General Secretary. He later went on to hold the position of Vice President before assuming the presidency in his current first term.

Over the past two years, Mujthaba has been instrumental in establishing the Maldives as an emerging beach handball nation. Through strengthening international partnerships and fostering closer ties with regional and global federations, he has helped create new development pathways for the sport.

These efforts culminated in the Maldives successfully hosting the Commonwealth Beach Handball Championship in September last year in Kulhudhuffushi City, a landmark event for Maldivian handball.

Mujthaba’s election to the CHA Asia Region leadership is expected to further enhance the Maldives’ presence within the international handball community. Stakeholders have expressed confidence that his experience and vision will contribute positively to the continued growth of the sport across the region.

The appointment not only reflects Mujthaba’s personal achievements but also highlights the progress and rising profile of handball in the Maldives.
