Fuvahmulah Mayor Ismail Rafeeq was not allowed to give a speech at the ceremony on October 4 during the President's visit.
President Mohamed Muizzu visited the city and addressed the people, but the mayor was not allowed to speak at the ceremony.
A source familiar with the matter told Adhadhu on condition of anonymity that the mayor was originally scheduled to speak at the ceremony.
But the government decided not to allow him to speak "in order to save time."
He [the mayor] attended all the events during the visit. But they [government] did not acknowledge his attendance, did not even mention his name," the source said.
However, the city council fully cooperated with the government to facilitate Muizzu's visit ahead of next year's local council elections.
