Gayoom awarded special commemorative shield on Victory Day

Former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom has been awarded a special commemorative shield on the occasion of Victory Day celebrated on November 3.

According to the President's Office, commemorative shields were also presented to the families of the martyrs of the November 3 attack.

The shield honours the courage, leadership, and invaluable contributions of Gayoom and the heroism and sacrifice of the martyrs and their families.

Gayoom's son Defence Minister Ghassan Maumoon and his daughter former Foreign Minister Dhunya Maumoon attended the ceremony.

Eight soldiers and 11 civilians were martyred in the terrorist attack on the Maldives 38 years ago on November 3, 1988.
