Home Minister Ali Ihusaan has said that no action has been taken against the police officers who were negligent in the investigation of Hawwa Yumn Rasheed found on a roof with critical injuries in April this year.
The report of the Presidential Commission of Inquiry into the incident said that the negligent law enforcement officers should face action for failing to carry out their responsibilities in accordance with laws and rules.
On June 24, President Mohamed Muizzu ordered the ministries and institutions to comply with the report.
However, Home Minister Ihusaan's response to a question from MP Mohamed Ibrahim (Kudu) makes it clear that no action had been taken in compliance with the commission's report.
The Galolhu North MP wanted to clarify the measures taken following Muizzu's order. Ihusaan submitted his response in writing to today's parliament session.
According to Ihusaan, the Professional Standards Command of the police had launched an investigation following the negligence raised in the inquiry report. He added that officers were being questioned.
"The investigation will be completed as soon as possible. The procedure of the Police Communication Center has been reviewed and the employees have been familiarized with the SOP," he stated.
Concluding his response, Ihusaan said efforts were underway to implement the recommendations, more than three months after the report was publicised.
The Presidential Commission report said the Investigation Officer (IO) was informed of the incident almost an hour after it was reported.
In addition, the report said that the officer at the scene had removed evidence needed for the investigation by the time the IO had arrived. The report noted that key pieces of evidence and information were missing due to negligence.
MNDF fire and rescue and paramedic teams were able to reach the scene within a reasonable time, but the police failed to put up crime scene tape and secure the area for the investigation.
