The ruling People's National Congress (PNC) has forced employees of State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs) to attend a rally held on Wednesday night.
President Mohamed Muizzu, ministers, MPs, councillors and other senior officials attended the rally held at the PNC campaign hall in Male'.
Some employees of SOEs told Adhadhu that the managers instructed them to attend the rally and held separate meetings to force workers to attend.
Employees of MPL, Stelco, MACL and STO were instructed to attend the gathering. Adhadhu understands their attendance was also checked.
Meanwhile, ruling party activists and senior government officials have been claiming that the gathering showed public support for Muizzu.
Some social media posts have also accused the PNC of involving criminal gangs to boost attendance at the gathering.
The ruling party's rally came as the opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) prepares to rally in Male' on October 3.
