Former President Mohamed Nasheed has called for a high-level conference to address the embezzlement of public funds and the unlawful use of government authority.
In a statement, the former President's office said legal experts, civil society leaders, journalists and international observers will be invited to the conference. The venue, date and agenda will be announced in the coming weeks.
"Corruption is not simply a matter of stolen money - it is theft of opportunity, dignity and justice from the Maldivian people," Nasheed said.
According to the statement, the conference will mark the launch of a long-term initiative to confront corruption through public engagement and legal advocacy.
The statement said it will also serve as a platform to examine corruption and misuse of official position across successive administrations in the Maldives.
