RRC power through, CC hold firm to book Kings Cup final showdown

Male' Maldives: The revamped Kings Cup has its finalists. Road Recreation Club (RRC) and Club Combination (CC) from B. Eydhafushi will battle for the crown on Tuesday night after contrasting but equally impressive victories in the semi-finals.

RRC showcased their attacking depth in a 4-2 triumph over Team Naivaadhoo, a match that had everything from missed penalties to late drama.

The first half belonged to RRC, with Ahmed Aflaaz breaking the deadlock. Naivaadhoo were given a golden opportunity to equalize after RRC’s sixth foul led to a long-range penalty, but Abdulla Shafiu (Shaappe) could not find the target.

The second half saw RRC shift into top gear. Abdulla Midhuhath Fahmy (Bichard) added a second before super-sub Shanan Rashad took center stage with two clinical finishes that silenced Naivaadhoo’s hopes.

But the game wasn’t over yet, RRC goalkeeper Mohamed Lufshan (Puff) misjudged a strike from Ahmed Hameed (Ammadey), gifting the opposition a lifeline. Moments later, Shaappe pulled another back, threatening a late fightback. However, Puff redeemed himself with two crucial penalty saves from Ammadey, ensuring RRC’s passage to the final.

While RRC dazzled with firepower, CC relied on discipline and tactical control to secure a 2-0 victory over Joali Maldives. The first half was a cagey battle, highlighted by a powerful strike from Ahmed Rahil Rasheed (Raakko) that rattled the woodwork.

The deadlock was broken after the restart when Mohamed Fasir (Faatte) pounced from close range to give CC the lead. Soon after, Ayaaz Ahmed doubled the advantage with a precise free kick, awarded after Ishan Ibrahim (Sattu) was fouled on the edge of the area.

Joali Maldives mounted a late surge, but CC’s captain and goalkeeper Abdulla Nasih was unbeatable, pulling off a series of spectacular saves to preserve both the clean sheet and his team’s place in the final.

With two very different paths to victory, RRC and CC now prepare for a Kings Cup final that promises to be a clash of styles, RRC’s relentless attacking threat against CC’s disciplined defensive structure. For the fans, Tuesday night’s showdown is set to be a grand spectacle worthy of the tournament’s revival.
