Two employees of the Meemu Dhiggaru Fenaka branch have been suspended for 30 days over their support towards the opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP).

Fenaka said Assistant Manager Zoobeen Hassan and Station Manager Mohamed Sodiq were suspended in connection with an ongoing inquiry.

The notice of suspension did not include details of the inquiry. But it stated that they were suspended with pay for 30 days.

Zoobeen told Adhadhu he did not know the reason for the suspension.

"I have been suspended for one month due to an ongoing inquiry. But they cannot explain what this inquiry is about. I have not received any warning letters about any disciplinary issues over the past four years in the company," he said.

Zoobeen said he had given full cooperation and managed the branch twice since the current government came to power in late 2023.

"I believe that it came from political differences... I am a member of MDP. They gave me the opportunity to join the ruling party... But I rejected the offer. That was about two months ago," he added.

Sodiq could not be reached for a comment. However, residents from Dhiggaru told Adhadhu that he is an MDP supporter.

Last Wednesday, two employees at Shaviyani Lhaimagu Fenaka branch were also suspended due to their criticism of the government.
