Male' Maldives: Football Association of Maldives (FAM) has officially launched the Atoll Championship, providing teams across the country with a pathway to qualify for next season’s Dhivehi Premier League.
FAM recently announced the kickoff of all regional leagues for this year, with team registrations now open. Clubs wishing to participate must complete the registration process before the deadline of 1st September 2025.
A dedicated registration form, along with relevant documents and a registration fee (9000 MVR), must be submitted via league@famaldives.com.
According to FAM guidelines, each participating team must be officially registered with the Commissioner of Sports and have the consent of the respective island council. Except for Fuvahmulah and Addu City, each island is allowed to register only one team.
The schedule for the regional leagues is as follows:
North Region: Starting 1st October 2025 (Islands: HA, HDH, Sh, N, R, B, Lh)
Central Region: Starting 15th November 2025 (Islands: K, AA, ADh, V, M, F, DH)
Male' Region: Starting 15th November 2025 (Male’, Hulhumale’, Vilimale’)
South Region: Starting 1st December 2025 (Islands: Th, L, Ga, Gdh, FVM, S)
The regional leagues are set to conclude on 15th February 2026.
FAM also confirmed that the upcoming Dhivehi Premier League season will feature 10 teams, with the bottom two automatically relegated.
Teams finishing in 7th and 8th place will enter a qualification phase, where all regional league champions and these two teams will compete for a spot in the 2026/27 Dhivehi Premier League.
This structured pathway aims to strengthen local football development and provide clubs nationwide with clear opportunities to reach the top tier of Maldivian football.
