The parliament has approved Mohamed Shafeeq Mahmood to the Human Rights Commission of the Maldives (HRCM).
President Mohamed Muizzu nominated two names for HRCM membership. They are Shafeeq and Mohamed Faris Thoha.
Shafeeq got 83 marks and Thoha got 53 marks during the committee stage. According to the rules, nominees with less than 75 marks will not be put to the vote.
The parliament floor voted unanimously to approve Shafeeq.
Shafeeq did not pursue higher education in the human rights field, but he has a master's certificate in business administration.
He has held senior positions in the Local Government Authority (LGA), Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) and Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH).
He was also a member of the Maldives Building and Construction Board formed during the administration of former President Abdulla Yameen.
