The government has stopped publicizing the expenses for President Mohamed Muizzu's overseas trips.
Muizzu took the initiative to disclose the details to ensure government transparency. He said in December 2, 2023 that the details will be disclosed by the President's Office.
The most recent details were revealed for his trip to the UK in April. Since then, Muizzu has made official visits to the UK, Malaysia and Singapore.
It has been 110 days since the Malaysia trip, 47 days since the Singapore trip and 30 days since the UK trip. But the President's Office is yet to disclose the expenses for these trips.
The President's Office has not yet disclosed the reason for failing to reveal the expenses.
President's Office Communications Minister Ibrahim Khaleel told Adhadhu that the information disclosure would not stop, but might face some delays. He said he would look into the matter.
Muizzu promised to disclose the details within 15 days of ending a trip.
He has made five trips this year. They included two trips to the UK and trips to Singapore, Malaysia, and Estonia. His wife Sajidha Mohamed accompanied him on the Singapore trip.
Large government delegations accompany the President on every trip. They include ministers, government officials, MPs and officials from state-owned enterprises (SOEs). Some medoa personnel are also allowed to travel on state expenses during some trips.
