The parliament's Public Accounts Committee has held a closed-door meeting with the Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA) to discuss the dollar shortage crisis.
MMA Governor Ahmed Munawar requested the meeting to be held behind closed-doors. But opposition MPs did not want a secret meeting.
But the motion, put forward by Funadhoo MP Mohamed Mamdhooh and backed by Henveiru North MP Ahmed Aifan, was passed with six votes and two against.
"I don't believe there is any information that could threaten national security or that needs to be hidden from the public related to the dollar shortage crisis," said Hulhumale' South MP Ahmed Shamheed.
MMA requested to share the measures being taken to address the dollar shortage crisis after opposition MPs demanded a meeting with the governor.
