Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri has said that relations between India and the Maldives are now good as a result of the hard work done to strengthen the ties.
During a press conference at the External Affairs Ministry on Tuesday, Misri said India had worked very hard to restore relations between the two countries.
"There will always be events that will impact or try to intrude on the relationship. But I think this is testimony to the kind of attention that has been paid to the relationship, including attention at the highest levels that has been paid to the relationship," he said.
"We've continued to work at it, and I think the result is there for you to see. I think we have also been in very close discussions with our partner partners in the Maldives to provide clarity and assurances about what it is that we want to do bilaterally, and I think this is the result is there for all to see," he added.
He said India would look into ways to provide further financial assistance to the Maldives. India has already rolled over a USD 50 million loan and arranged a currency swap of USD 400 million and MVR 30 billion.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to arrive in the Maldives on July 25 to attend the 60th Independence Day celebrations as the guest of honour. He will leave the country on July 26.
